Project 3

Module 3

Developing our final prototype and documenting our new practical learnings.

Workshop 1

The first steps to soldering. Soldering demo part 2. Stripping wires. Making sure the fumes exit through the exhaust pipe. Soldering helping hands and completion.

Workshop 2

Bodystorming part 1 - the pan is placed on the stove. Bodystorming part 2 - the egg is cracked into the pan. Bodystorming part 3 - the egg is cooked in the pan. Bodystorming part 4 - demo of the oven opening. Bodystorming part 5 - the user and app upon successful installation.

Activity 1: My Research

Physical material preparation for the base of the prototype. Basic construction of the first elements of the prototype miniature room. Demo of the working digital water code. Interacting with the placeholder water screen. Final basic construction of the base of the room.

Activity 2: My Research

Python code for translating Arduino touch to sound output. Working code for both of our sensors. Working touch sensor original code. Working pulse sensor original code. The DFPlayer Mini, which we discovered through research and could have worked for these same purposes in a future project.

Additional Research or Workshops

Research for the water code based off of koi pond inspiration. We looked into moving fish using JS animation but decided against it as it was too laggy. Potential water code using p5.js that we found through research but decided against using due to lack of customization. The water demos sourced from github we ended up using. Makeymakey extension research that we found but did not end up using. The app Koi Pond, major inspiration for our water simulation.

Project 3 Final Prototype

Our final prototype is a relaxing full experience sensory room that mimics the ocean beachside. While the sand, shells, moss, rocks, and other textures are real, the simulated lighting and touchscreen ocean provide delight and safety, and makes a relaxing outdoor room accessible to all audiences. Audience can play with the water, climb on the boat, or make music on the rocks in this blend of technological and sensory beach room.
